IMMORTALITY

By FRANCIS WAAPERA

A nymph divined I’d live forever
So I wove a bed of wool
And pitched a tent of ice
Waking at night to soulful sighs
Of whimpering petals
I stirred once
The stars blinked twice
Sadly
Tearfully
I saw then the violets had melted

I was dead!
